SANIBONANI SOUTH AFRICA - An Oriental Affair

The bright colours of the decor around, the shimmering clothing and jewelry, the strong tantalizing aromas that emanate from the kitchen, the intricate henna designs and lastly a beautiful bride-to-be.
Yes, this past weekend felt like a scene from a bollywood movie.

Engagement rings & butterflies and a step closer to a new life. This weekend we celebrated a close friend of mine's engagement, in real indian style. The party was nothing short of spectacular.

The pictures above of the henna is truly one of the most beautiful forms of art. Henna artist are gifted, no stencil, no pictures, no trials. The designs spring solely from the head. It takes patience, concentration and rhythmical hand movement to achieve these exquisite designs.

Indian clothing is elegantly colourful adorned with bead work. As can seen above.

The colour theme for this lovely gathering was pink and blue, this included the bride to be's Garara (one of the traditional indian attire), draping and flowers that brought the gathering to life.

Lastly, the cuisine. Spicy, sweet, salty, u name it we serve it. Sweet meats, delicious delicacies, are one of engagement traditions. Another tradition is serbet, a sweet cooling drink made from rose water.

I hope this post was enlightening and gave you an insight to indian traditions☺

SANIBONANI South Africa- Afcon 2013

This is terrible. 23 days of the Afcon tournament and I didn't write a post on it. Well the truth is, I lost all interest when Bafana was eliminated. Prior to that I was too occupied for the blog. My apologies.

The nation had hope, hope that last night would be a Bafana final. How amazing would that have been? But, we are still proud of you BAFANA!

Last nights match and closing ceremony was spectacular none the less. Nigeria are deserving winners of the cup.

South Africa did an amazing job hosting the tournament. We hope for more sporting events to be held in Zuid-Afrika and better end results for all our natonal sporting teams(we know you can do it!).

SANIBONANI South Africa- Charity

This past weekend I attended and participated in a ladies lunch and fashion show to collect funds and raise awareness for Gaza, Palestine.

Thanx to all the organizers for all the hard work that they put in, the event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all the attendees.

I'm sure most of you are familiar with the struggle in Palestine. Apartheid, yes, being South African we all know what that is. Being born in the 1990's I was fortunate enough not to experience apartheids oppression. Yet looking into the eyes and listening to the stories of those who lived through it, brings shivers and tears to my eyes.

Reading about and viewing pictures of the current state in Palestine is heart breaking. The little that we can do to assist the people of Palestine, must be done. Looking at SA and how far we've come, brings hope for the future of Palestine. Please remember them in your prayers. Palestine must be free!
