SANIBONANI SOUTH AFRICA - An Oriental Affair

The bright colours of the decor around, the shimmering clothing and jewelry, the strong tantalizing aromas that emanate from the kitchen, the intricate henna designs and lastly a beautiful bride-to-be.
Yes, this past weekend felt like a scene from a bollywood movie.

Engagement rings & butterflies and a step closer to a new life. This weekend we celebrated a close friend of mine's engagement, in real indian style. The party was nothing short of spectacular.

The pictures above of the henna is truly one of the most beautiful forms of art. Henna artist are gifted, no stencil, no pictures, no trials. The designs spring solely from the head. It takes patience, concentration and rhythmical hand movement to achieve these exquisite designs.

Indian clothing is elegantly colourful adorned with bead work. As can seen above.

The colour theme for this lovely gathering was pink and blue, this included the bride to be's Garara (one of the traditional indian attire), draping and flowers that brought the gathering to life.

Lastly, the cuisine. Spicy, sweet, salty, u name it we serve it. Sweet meats, delicious delicacies, are one of engagement traditions. Another tradition is serbet, a sweet cooling drink made from rose water.

I hope this post was enlightening and gave you an insight to indian traditions☺
