DIY-BEAUTY TRICKS

Like most teenagers, there was a time where my skin and I were archenemies!
But I've won the battle! :D

Here are a few tricks that I've learnt that work wonders, not only for the skin, but body too.

Pimple buster
* Cinnamon and lemon juice paste applied to pimples . Remove once dried
* Baby powder!! Yes that's right! Baby powder dries pimples up too!
* Zinc tablets, my favourite that I have been using for about 2 years now, Zinplex.
* Crushed ginger

Mark vanishers
* Lemon juice used over night. DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR FACE IN THE MORNING!!
* Ice cubes wrapped in a cloth. Yes its cold, but works wonders.
* Tissue oil. Most tissue oils are to be used only at night.
* Raw onions rubbed on the marks. The smell is awful I know!

Luscious Eye Lashes- Apply Vaseline to eye-lashes at night. Its a great conditioner.

Make up remover- Baby oil

Body scrub- Brown sugar and olive oil

Teeth Whitener
*Before brushing with toothpaste, brush your teeth with bicarbonate of Soda.
*Inside of a banana peel

Supple Hands & Feet- Apply vaseline to hands and feet, cover with a plastic bag and sleep away. If you not such a fan of the overnight treatment, try 30-60minutes

Alluring Lips- Apply vaseline like a lip balm to the lips at night

Ooh-la-la Hair
* Braiding/plaitting hair at night before you sleep helps speed up hair growth
* Massaging the scalp helps hair growth too

All of the Above has been tried and tested.
Have fun trying it yourself:)

Hijibiji hijabi- Zig-Zag Turban

Here goes, the first hijab tutorial for the site.
The style's cool, the tutorial on the other hand isn't too grand.
I'm thinking a video tutorial would be easier and more helpful, but I'm not really one for the video camera.
What do you think?
How can I improve the tutorial without a video?
What you need:
•2 long scarves in matching colours
•Dressmaking pins to secure the ends

Tie your hair up into a bun.

Crepé's? Pancakes? No to me they are PANNEKOEK! Boere Pannekoek!

When the rain falls in the Boland(eastern part of the Western Cape), its tradition to bake pancakes. It might be storm weather outside but in the kitchens, the sugar melts away on the tongues and the cinnamon gently creeps up in the canals of the nose.

Here is a real boere pannekoek recipe.

Ingredients:
2 eggs
2½ cup milk
2 cup cake flour
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
2 tbls sunflower oil
1 tbls vinegar

1. Beat eggs and milk.
2. Add dry ingredients gradually.
3. Add the oil and vinegar.
4. Leave batter to stand for at least half an hour.
5. Spray the frying pan with spray and cook. Heat the pan
6. Pour enough batter to cover the pan. Fry one side, turn over and fry the other side.

DIY- Haircut

A few years ago while accompanying my friend to the salon I was amazed at the technique used by the hairdresser to cut my friends hair. She made her lean forward throwing all her hair over her face. She tied it up and snipped the ends. The result: Beautiful layers.

Recently my hair was looking rather boring, shapeless and flat. I needed a haircut, desperately. Unfortunately there just wasn't time for a salon visit.

Remembering what I'd seen I decided to give it a try. What's the worst that could happen, uneven layers? 90% of the time my hair is covered anyway(with a hijab), it was worth the risk.

To my surprise, it looked pretty amazing. So good that a friend ask me to cut hers too!

What you'll need:
•Newspaper
•Elastic hair band
•Comb
•Sharp hair scissors

How it's done:
1. Place newspaper on the floor
2. Sit on the newspaper, tilt your head forward & brush all your hair down over ur head.
3. Tie it up at your forehead.
4. Using a sharp scissor, cut off a piece from the bottom of the pony, depending on how long/short you'd like to cut your hair. Remember that the top layer of your hair is the length of your hair.

Best done on wet hair but if you have straight hair it will work on dry hair too.

If you're a bit scared, ask a friend for some assistance.
Good luck! Happy snipping!
