BLACK COFFEE CRUSH

I currently have a major crush on Black Coffee's 2013 collections.

Bold african patterns, monochrome, pastels, powerful and precise.
How can you not go gaga over these creations?

The best news, these alluring garments go on sale in September!!!

1 ADDITION, MANY WAYS- Chained It- "Body-Neck-Lace"

Here goes, as promised. The new feature!

This one adds an instant Glamification.
For this DIY you need to make a trip to a hardware store.

Things you need:
• Pliers
• 3m of chain
• Chain clasp
• Measuring tape (not shown in pic)
• Side cutter

I apologize if these descriptions are confusing, but in all honesty, I confused myself so many times while making this piece.

Steps:
1. Measure the length around your neck. Next measure the length from beneath your chest up over your shoulder, under your arm. Cut the pieces using a side cutter.
2. Neck piece: Using the pliers open the last hook and insert the chain clasp. This makes a necklace.
3. Place the neck piece and shoulder piece next to each other.
4. Find the mid-point on the neck piece. Attach a piece of chain from the midpoint of the neck piece to the bottom end of the shoulder piece.
5. I inserted a stud earring in the last ring of the shoulder piece, to ensure that I didn't loose my place and to lessen the confusion a bit.
6. This step is easiest done while wearing the piece. Put on the neck piece as you would any other necklace. Position the shoulder piece on your body. Throw the excess chain over your shoulder.
6.1. Mark off where the shoulder piece chain meets your shoulder.
6.2. Measure the length on your shoulder from the neck piece to the shoulder piece.
7. Now add in other pieces.
8. The last part. Again I would suggest wearing the piece for this step. Put on your almost complete Body-Neck-Lace. Take the hanging pieces over your shoulder, pull it out under your arm. Look at where it meets the front piece and attach! You now have an arm hoop.

Tada, there you go. Completed Body-Neck-Lace.

Phew! This took me a while but it was so worth it.

I highly recommend using pliers at all times!!! (I didn't and was left with aching fingers and chipped nails.)

*Hijabi's--- some eid inspo. The price and rate at which abaya's go out of style is just insane! So why not make your own?

LIKES & CURRENT OBSESSION

Something that I really like; multipurpose accessories. Another something that I really like; DIY's!!
Current obsession: Dresses

Put it all together and it adds up to excitement & fun! I've decided to add a new monthly feature to the blog: 1 Addition, Many Ways.

Each month I'll share a DIY tutorial for an accessory that can be re-used on a number of garments. Eeeep! I'm so excited, I can't wait to get started!

Look out for the first '1 Addition, Many Ways' tutorial some time next week.

*Hint: I suggest you get yourself a one colour maxi dress. I got mine from Mr.Price. You can get the same one too, right now(don't you love internet shopping??) http://www.mrp.com/mobile/productDetail.do?productId=11002_00241

(Pssst hijaabi's! These diy's can be adapted for abaya's)

Be back soon

TIME IN THE KITCHEN- "GOOL-GOOLA"

This morning I spent some time in the kitchen, after ages! As most of you know we are currently in Ramdaan (the month of fasting.) Fast all day, feast all night. Not the way it's supposed to be but that's how it usually goes. This ramadaan I decided to make healthier choices and actually detox. But oh well we still have to have a few treats now and then right?

Today I made Gool-goola, an indian savoury that's enjoyed with tea. There are many different variations to this recipe but I prefer the simple one. Just as tasty.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 tbls clarified butter (ghee)
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 tsp fennel seeds
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp baking powder

Method:
1. Rub the clarified butter into the flour.
2. Add all other ingredients except the baking powder.
3. Allow to stand for an hour.
4. Add the baking powder.
5. Deep fry in medium hot oil until golden.

Lady In Red

A few ways to incorporate red into your wardrobe.

Red pairs beautifully with black, white, grey, navy, gold, silver, olive green, beige, cream, tan, camel, animal prints and depending on the shade of red, with yellow, orange, turquoise and pink too.

Energy, action, desire and passion are all associated with the colour red.
Red is known to be a warm colour, one that attracts attention.

To me, red always looks ravishing!

DISAPPEARING ACTS

When I blog, I really blog and when I don't, I don't for days. Apologies. The past week has really been on the crazier side.

Here are some pics of the beautiful Turkish mosque in Midrand, Johannesburg in the mean time. Will be back soon!
