PAP, JUST PAP

Its white and soft and a staple food in South Africa. It's Pap. What is a South African blog without the mention of pap?
Pap is a porridge made mainly of maize meal and enjoyed by most South Africans. It's enjoyed in a softer form known as "slap pap" or a thicker consistency known as "stywe pap".

Slap pap is accompanied with milk and sugar and is usually enjoyed as a breakfast.

Stywe pap is enjoyed with meat, gravy
or vegetables, and of course a South African Braai.

Here's a fav pap recipe:

Ingredients:
1 litre water
1/2 tsp salt
+/- 2 cups maize meal(depending on the consistency you prefer)

Method:
1. Add salt to the water and boil.
2. Add maize meal and stirr wel using a wooden spoon.
3. Reduce the heat to low and allow to cook for about an hour.

Note: You may add some butter or margarine to your pap. Add it to the water or add in with the maize meal.

Ta-da! There you have it! A pot of pap, all u need now is some wors and a braai stove!
